Access and Process of Data over WAN Enabled by VDAP
VDAP is not one technology; VDAP uses its 32 patents to stretch RDMA over WAN. When deploying VDAP in ULT X or RAD X, a secure Layer 3 (L2TP) P2P tunnel is established between two instances of VDAP. VDAP controls the flow of data in the P2P tunnel, optimizing throughput at 90% of bandwidth.
VDAP requires no changes to the Local area network, application, storage, or Wide Area Network. Applications access data via a local SMB/NFS/S3 mount point and begin accessing data in real-time. Only when a connection is established will any data be sent. Applications experience latency at first byte then performance is consistent with LAN.
VDAP deploys seamlessly into any environment. No changes to the application, network, servers, or storage are required. Data traverses through the tunnel with an IP address encapsulated in UDP so no special configurations are required.
ULTimate X (ULT X) product line combines VDAP with IBM Spectrum Scale parallel file system to deliver simplicity, performance, and flexibility. The solution can be deployed in virtualized and cloud infrastructures, on standard servers, and with support for containers. For better performance, ULT X can leverage FPGA in hardware or in an AWS F1 instance.
